Become an insider for a project and end your access

As an insider, you can view a project while it's still in the planning stages, provide feedback on the bulletin board, and help ensure its success when the funding campaign launches.

As an Insider, you get involved in a project early on: You can provide the project team with feedback on the idea and help ensure its success by offering your support as funding begins. You can only become an Insider by invitation. To do so, you must accept the invitation.

Become an Insider

Accept the invitation

The project team can invite you personally as an insider. You don't need an existing Startnext account to do this.

  1. Open the link in the invitation email. If you already have an account, you can also find an open invitation in your profile.
  2. Check out the project and accept the invitation.

Once you accept, you'll become an insider for this project. The link in the invitation email is valid for 48 hours. If it has expired, please ask the project team for a new invitation.

Invitation from a previous project

Project creators can also invite subscribers to their own previous successful projects to join a new project as insiders. If you’re still receiving project updates from the previous project, you’ll get the invitation via email. If you’ve unsubscribed from the project updates, you won’t receive an invitation or reminder email. The invitation is still there, though: You can find it in your profile under “Projects” and accept it there.

A previous contribution alone is not enough to qualify for this invitation if you are not following the previous project as a fan.

Distinguish Between Insider Status and Project News

The Insider role and the project news subscription are separate. By accepting an Insider invitation, you will also be listed as a fan of the project. This will not reactivate any project news subscriptions you have already canceled.

If you've subscribed to a previous project, that doesn't automatically make you an Insider for a new project. You'll only be assigned the Insider role in the new project once you accept the invitation to join it.

What You Get with Insider Status

As an Insider, you can view the project in its draft stage with early access, provide feedback on the bulletin board, and help ensure its success with your support when the funding campaign launches. The project team can also publish blog posts exclusively for Insiders.

Your "Insider" status applies to the specific project. This does not make you a team member, and you will not have editing access to the project interface.

Project creators can reserve select rewards for Insiders. These rewards are visible to everyone, but during the first 72 hours after the funding campaign begins, they can only be claimed by logged-in Insiders of the respective project. Other visitors can see when the reward is expected to become available. After 72 hours, the regular inventory rules apply.

End Insider Status

You can cancel your Insider membership at any time.

  1. Open your profile.
  2. Go to your project list.
  3. Select "Sign Out" for the relevant project.
