You’ll receive the backer data as a download once the campaign has successfully concluded. You can generally use this contact information for project-related communications (information about support/donations, project updates, and thank-you gifts).

For promotional newsletters (i.e., those unrelated to the project), you should generally obtain separate, explicit consent (opt-in).

What does Startnext offer?

  • Once the campaign has ended successfully, we'll provide you with the backer data in an Excel file that you can download.
  • As part of the process, a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is also entered into, allowing Startnext to collect, process, and make the data available to you.

What can I use the email addresses for?

Without additional consent, it is generally possible to contact supporters to:

  • Updates on Project Progress
  • Information on order processing (e.g., shipping, questions about addresses)
  • Information on the purpose of the support or donation

If you also want to send promotional content on a regular basis (e.g., new projects, special offers, general newsletters), we recommend:

  • Obtain consent with a single click (double opt-in or verifiable opt-in)
  • Transparent information about what the address is used for

Required in every email: Include an unsubscribe option

Your emails should always include a simple "Unsubscribe" link or a clear way to unsubscribe.

Important

This is general guidance and not legal advice. If you’re unsure (e.g., regarding large newsletter mailing lists or marketing automation), please seek brief advice on data protection law.
