If you are a minor, you generally cannot launch your project entirely on your own. You will need an adult or an organization to formally launch the project with you—particularly for identification purposes, a bank account for payments, and tax reporting.
Why is that?
Before launching the project (and especially for payment processing and disbursement), identity and payment details must be verified in a legally compliant manner. In addition, contractual obligations arise (e.g., toward supporters).
Here's how it works in practice
1) An adult or an organization acting as the “sponsor”
You need one of these options:
- an adult (e.g., a parent, an adult team member) or
- an institution/organization/company,
…who will launch the project with you and handle the administrative details.
2) Identification & Payout Account
The adult or organization must provide proof of identity and designate a bank account to which the grant funds will be disbursed.
3) Taxes & Accounting
Tax reporting must also be handled (or supervised) by an adult or an organization, because the proceeds from the crowdfunding campaign must be correctly allocated and recorded.
Important
Of course, you can still play a key role in shaping the content, communication, and implementation—the formalities just need to be handled by an adult or an organization.
