With Survey, you can gather information and make decisions directly from your backers. This helps you, for example, to collect size information for each copy ordered, solicit feedback on thank-you gifts, or verify shipping addresses before shipping.

When can I use Survey?

Survey is available starting with the Pro plan. To create and edit surveys, you need editing permissions for the project.

How do I create a query?

  1. Open your project in Postfunder and select “Survey.”
  2. Create a query and add a title, description, and, if necessary, a response deadline.
  3. Select the target audience: all backers, free rewards, or selected thank-you gifts.
  4. Add questions as short or long text, yes/no, single or multiple choice, date, or a confirmation checkbox. For each question, specify whether it is required or optional. For date questions, you can limit the allowed time period by specifying an earliest and latest date.
  5. Decide whether one response per order is sufficient or whether you need specific information for each thank-you copy. If you order three copies, you can request three different sizes.
  6. If necessary, enable the shipping or billing address and set its status to required.
  7. Save and review the workflow in the preview using sample data.

The cover image, accent color, introduction, and acknowledgment message customize the survey page to fit your project. German survey text is automatically translated into English. Be sure to review the English version in the preview as well.

You can archive questions that have already been answered; their existing answers will be retained for analysis.

How do I invite my crowd?

Before sending, check your available mailing quota. Open the query and use it to create a mailing draft. Postfunder saves your changes and creates the draft for the query’s target audience. Write your message, review the recipients and personalized links in the preview, and then start the mailing.

The draft remains linked to the poll and follows its current target audience. If a poll is closed or has expired, the preview and sending options will not be available again until the poll is reopened with a valid deadline.

How do supporters answer the questions?

The invitation contains a personalized link to the relevant support page. Clicking on it opens the form directly, without requiring the recipient to have their own account. The link is personal and should not be shared publicly. Entries are saved as they are being edited. Existing order, contact, and address information will be approved after an additional personal verification using a ZIP code or order reference; the specific verification method depends on the available data.

Once the campaign is over, your thank-you message will appear. As long as the campaign page is open and the deadline has not passed, supporters can return to the editing page.

How do reminders and deadlines work?

Automatic reminders are sent for unanswered polls 2, 7, 14, and 30 days after the first invitation was accepted by the mailing service. Completed polls, as well as closed or expired polls, are excluded from these reminders. You can manually close polls and reopen them as needed. After a poll is closed or expires, any responses that have already been submitted remain viewable.

How do I evaluate the answers?

Open the survey results. There, you'll see invitations and deliveries, as well as responses that have been started and completed, listed separately. Filters by status, name, email, thank-you message, and time period will help you find the cases you need.

Check the currently selected filters and the displayed selection. Then start the Excel or PDF export for this selection and download the file once it’s finished. In Excel, questions form the columns; one row is created for each order and query. Answers for each thank-you copy are assigned along with the title and copy number. Archived questions remain included in the export along with their existing answers.

What do I check in open cases?

  • Partially answered: The user has already saved their entries but has not yet completed the process. Check the response status.
  • Existing address still blocked: The person must first complete the requested verification. The personal workflow indicates which ZIP code or reference number is required.
  • Shipping blocked: Check whether the linked request has been closed or has expired, and reopen it with an appropriate deadline if necessary.
  • Address corrected: Check the new information before creating and sending the document. Documents that have already been created will not be automatically regenerated as a result of the address correction.
