Why does Startnext charge such high commissions?

The Startnext team is small (about 20 employees) and efficient, but the technology is complex and must run securely around the clock. We prefer to provide personalized advice and use AI strategically—when it allows us to offer you better service and quick information.

Until October 2025, Startnext relied on voluntary fees from campaign creators and backers, as well as external transaction costs. This model had its advantages, but it also led to uncertainties and a lack of transparency—which is why we’ve revised it.

Our new commission model is clear and transparent. It streamlines processes and excludes supporters from the commission process so that nothing detracts from the support provided to a project.

To ensure that Startnext can operate smoothly and remain sustainable, we currently require a commission of 8–9% net on average.

Platforms that operate in a similar way offer comparable savings. Compared to international platforms, our prices are about 10–20% higher due to smaller economies of scale when you use one of our discount codes. We make up for this with personalized service and a strong, local community.

We offer a different range of services and are based in the DACH region—that’s why we can’t and won’t offer more favorable terms. You don’t choose Startnext because of low commissions, but because you love what we do.

Important: Factor the commission into your funding goal. Keep in mind, however, that it’s not you who pays the commission, but your backers. Anything that makes your campaign more successful is therefore worth paying a higher commission.
