During the verification process, our payment service provider, Stripe, will verify your identity online. To do this, you’ll need to take a photo of your ID and a photo of your face. To ensure the verification process goes smoothly, the photos must be complete, clear, and genuine images of your original documents.
How does the verification process work?
Stripe performs three checks:
- 1Verify ID – Stripe captures the front and back of your government-issued photo ID and automatically verifies that the document is genuine.
- 2Face verification – Stripe takes a photo of your face and compares it to the photo on your ID.
- 3Verify information – Stripe checks the name, date of birth, and ID number against official databases.
Before performing the biometric verification, Stripe will ask for your consent.
Here's what you'll need
- A valid, official photo ID (identity card, passport, or driver's license) – not expired.
- A device with a camera—preferably your own smartphone, since it usually takes better photos than a webcam.
How to Take a Great Photo
The quality of the recording is a key factor in determining whether verification is successful on the first try.
- Take a clear photo: The ID must not be cropped and must be fully visible in the photo. It is best to lay it flat.
- Real photo—no scans, no copies: If possible, use your own cell phone and take a photo of the original document directly. No scans, photocopies, or photos taken from a screen.
- High quality: Sharp and well-lit—not pixelated, not too dark or too bright, with no flash glare or shadows.
- Keep your face clear: Remove your glasses, mask, or hat for the photo.
- Information must match: The name and address provided must match the identification document exactly.
Who has access to my data?
Both Startnext and Stripe have access to the transmitted data. Stripe stores the verification data and employs access controls and security standards to do so.
Important
- Only share your ID information through Stripe's official verification process.
- If verification doesn't work, first check the quality of the photo and make sure your information matches your ID exactly.
