Startnext processes personal data to provide the platform and manage contributions. Which data is visible or shared depends on your role and the status of the crowdfunding project. Current details can be found in the Privacy Policy.

What information do participants see when they receive support?

Campaign creators gain access to backer data even before the campaign ends. The exact timing depends on the campaign type and its funding status:

  • In an all-or-nothing project, backers initially see only the project creator’s first and last name, as well as the date and amount of the contribution. As soon as the project reaches the minimum amount, the information needed for preparation and fulfillment of the agreement is made available—even if the funding phase is still ongoing.
  • In a Flexible Funding project, this data is made available immediately after the funding is received, because there is no minimum amount that must be reached.

The data provided may include, in particular, the following information:

  • First and Last Name
  • Email address
  • Amount of Assistance and Date
  • Chosen Thank-You Gift
  • Shipping or billing address, if required for processing the order
  • project-specific details, such as a selected value

Sellers do not receive any payment information, such as credit card details or account numbers, nor do they receive any sensitive personal data.

Who else processes my data?

Startnext and its contracted service providers process only the data necessary for the respective purpose. For example, payment service providers process the information necessary for payment processing and fraud prevention.

The service providers used, potential data transfers, and legal bases may change. You can therefore find the most up-to-date overview in the Privacy Policy.

How is my data protected and stored?

Startnext protects data through technical and organizational measures. Data transmitted via the website is encrypted using SSL/TLS, and access to stored data is restricted to authorized personnel.

Current information regarding hosting, server locations, and subcontractors can be found in the Privacy Policy.

How can I export my saved data?

You can request a copy of your data stored with Startnext as a file.

  1. 1Sign up for Startnext.
  2. 2Click your account icon to open the Messages & Privacy section.
  3. 3Under "Export Data," select the "Learn More" option.
  4. 4The export will be sent to your account's email address.

If you signed in as a guest, you can set a password by clicking "Forgot Password" and then access your settings.

Is data export the same as a GDPR information request?

Not in every case. The data export provides you with a copy of the data available in your account. A formal request for information under the General Data Protection Regulation may also include details on processing purposes, recipients, and retention periods.

For a formal request, you may be required to provide proof that the data in question is your own. You can find the current contact information and requirements in the Privacy Policy.

How long will my data be stored?

The retention period depends on the purpose of the processing and on legal, regulatory, or contractual requirements. Data is deleted or blocked as soon as it is no longer needed and there are no retention obligations that prevent this.

Since specific deadlines may vary and change depending on the type of data, they are not listed separately in this FAQ article. You can find the current information in the privacy policy.

Can I have my data completely deleted at any time?

Not in every case. Data may be deleted if it is no longer needed and there are no legal, regulatory, or contractual retention requirements that prevent it. You can submit your request to Startnext or to the data protection officer named in the privacy policy.
